Program Design
CCMP aims to introduce and develop basic musical skills
of traditional mariachi instruments such as the guitar,
vihuela, guitarrón, trumpet, and violin.  The program is
structured for both beginning students with no previous
musical experience and for intermediate students that have
some musical knowledge of a traditional mariachi
instrument.  Like any other type of music genre, mariachi is
meant for all ages and ethnicities; therefore this program
encourages people, ages six and up, from all cultural
backgrounds to partake in this exciting program.
Here at CCMP we believe that basic music skills such as
reading, scales, solfege, and instrument technique are part
of a solid foundation that will help students explore mariachi
music.
The program  instructs students on proper mariachi
musical style for each instrument; explores different
regional music of Mexico that is commonly played by
mariachis, such as: rancheras, boleros, polkas,
huapangos, sones jalicienses,and jarabes.
Students learn through our experienced group
instructors as well as listening to mariachi recordings,
watching both recorded and live mariachi concerts, and
by attending mariachi workshops.
Students are also assigned music theory homework,
are given practice sheets, and are quizzed weekly, both
with repertoire and theory.  This helps promote their
growth as musicians, builds their self-confidence, and
establishes a sense of responsibility.   Students are
separated by level and instrument with each group
receiving vocal instruction from our experienced vocal
coach.
